Long fascinated by odd vocations and unusual hobbies, The Breeders explores the world of pedigree dog breeding via drawings and scale models of assorted breeds of dogs. The models are made from the fur of purebred dogs with each model made from the specific fur of the breed of dog represented - meaning the Spaniel was made from Cocker Spaniel fur, the Poodle is made from Poodle fur, etc. The models are created in proportional scale in relationship to each other with the Standard Poodle measuring 11' in height and the tiny Maltese standing a mere 5" in height. This ongoing project also includes a number of works on paper including a series of drawings that visualizes genetics and the inheritance of spots in various breeds of dogs. Another series delves into the visual speculation on the results of cross-breeding different varieties of dogs. A recent paint and graphite series explores ancient Aztec breeds and rare hairless dogs originally developed by the Incas to serve as living bed-warmers in the frigid mountains of Peru.
